The Main Economic Indicators (MEI) presents comparative statistics that provide an overview of recent international economic developments through the presentation of a wide range of short-term economic indicators for the OECD member countries, 5 area totals and selected non-member countries .

The MEI is a monthly publication (see timetable) available in  paper version, CDRom and on line .

Supporting Information

The OECD Main Economic Indicators is accompanied by a number of  supporting elements that help lend transparency to the statistics published in MEI and assist user access to the data.

Methodological Information

The statistics published in MEI are accompanied by extensive statistical methodological information that outline the principal subjects covered in the MEI and current national practices in the compilation of each indicator. This information is designed to enable users to have a better understanding of the data. In addition, a range of other methodological reports relating to the statistics published in the MEI are also available.

International Statistical Guidelines and Recommendations

Over the last two or three decades an extensive range of guidelines and recommendations for most of the short-term economic indicators published in MEI have been prepared by international organisations (United Nations Statistical Division (UNSD), International Monetary Fund (IMF), International Labour Organisation (ILO) and Eurostat) working with national statistical institutes and other agencies responsible for their compilation and dissemination ( more.. .)

Free On-line Short-Term Indicators 

An  extensive range of short-term economic indicators  published in MEI and from other sources are available for use free of charge on the internet. These may be used provided attribution to the OECD is made as the source.

Statistics related to the MEI 

There are also a number of other OECD publications on short-term economic indicators and related information in addition to the monthly Main Economic Indicators (MEI). These comprise information relating to composite leading indicators (CLIs) and publications on labour force statistics, quarterly national accounts, international trade, purchasing power parities (PPPs) and indicators on industry and services.
